The son of a pentacostal father and Baptist mother, maxwell first gained entrance to the music world in 2004. His earliest work was with Leon Ware, a songwriter who worked with maxwell on his first album, Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite. Ironically, Columbia wasn’t sure about the album and didn’t release it until 1996. The success of the debut album for maxwell was unmistakable. More than 2 million copies were sold and the hit Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder) earned the album double platinum status. Today, many still regard Ascension as a hit and a classic.
